STraffic plans to carry out the design, production, delivery, inspection, installation, and test operation of the train control system for the Busan Urban Railway Yangsan Line (Nopo-Bukjeong) construction project conducted by the Busan Transportation Corporation. Unmanned driving will be implemented throughout the entire route by June 2026.
The company's position is that it is significant as it is the first project for the next-generation railway signaling system (KTCS-M) ordered by a public institution. KTCS-M can control trains in real time by applying two-way continuous wireless communication technology without using track circuits on the ground. The Korea Railroad Research Institute completed research and technology development in July 2014 with the goal of localization and standardization, and is preparing for commercialization on the Ilsan Line.
STraffic has secured technology related to the ‘development and construction of the Korean wireless communication-based train control system (KRTCS)’, which has been a national project carried out by Samsung SDS (018260), POSCO ICT, and Korea Railroad Research Institute since 2010. The business rights, including the workforce involved in core solution development, have been transferred from Samsung SDS and POSCO ICT, and the business is being promoted. Based on the technology, the product was delivered to the Ilsan Line (Jeongbalsan ~ Daehwa), Section 2 of the ‘KTCS-M Pilot Project’, a project ordered by the Korea Railroad Corporation, and sales operation was successfully completed.
An STraffic official said, “Following the KTCS-M Ilsan Line pilot project, we have begun building a train control system on routes operated by public institutions, which allows us to further increase the stability and maintainability of unmanned operation.” He added, “We are further improving the performance of the solution.” “We will gain a competitive edge in the KTCS-M project being prepared by each local government in the future.”
