Discounts will be applied when boarding a bus or subway after using the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit (GTX) Line A, which is expected to reduce the fare burden.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that it reached a final agreement with related organizations, including Seoul City, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon City, and Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), to apply the metropolitan area integrated transfer discount system to GTX-A.

The transfer discount will be applied immediately from the opening of the GTX-A Suseo-Dongtan section next year. When public transportation users use prepaid or postpaid transportation cards to transfer between the GTX and buses and subways within the metropolitan area, they do not have to pay the basic fare twice.

With the cooperation of Seoul City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to take follow-up measures, such as establishing a GTX-A fee payment system with a fee settlement agency (T-money), within this month.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that although GTX, which can access the city center in 30 minutes, is a new concept of transportation that is different from regular subways, it has decided to apply a transfer discount in the metropolitan area to GTX as well to ease the fare burden on public transportation users.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport predicts that the connectivity and accessibility between GTX and buses and subways will be strengthened, which will reduce travel time and have a positive impact on revitalizing public transportation.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong said, “I am grateful to the local governments and other related organizations for coming together in the direction of reducing the burden on public transportation users,” and added, “We will continue to work hard to ensure that people can use the fast and comfortable GTX-A at a reasonable price.” said.
