Modernizing Fare Payments
STraffic is transforming fare payments to include digital and open payment technology. STraffic’s payment platform is based on an open architecture – easily integrated with point-of-sale terminals* and payment processors so that riders can travel conveniently and equitably.
*Point-of-sale equipment must be type-approved to support Bankcard technology, leveraging EMVCo standards for chip and mobile acceptance.

How It All Works? ⦁ We’ve based our technology on open standards so riders can use their contactless credit/debit cards, mobile wallets and digital payment methods (e.g., Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay) to pay transit fares. With no need to get special transit cards, paying fares is quicker and simpler—just like shopping at any store or online. ⦁ Until now, implementing open payments has been challenging and taken a lot of time. It involved collaborating with banks and card providers, changing fare structures and blending old data systems with the new payment methods.
⦁ STraffic built its innovative platform from the ground up to specifically support fare payments with bankcards and mobile phones and validate payment credentials in real time to minimize transaction risk, and send them to payment networks in the shortest amount of time possible so riders can board quickly.

VISA Ready We’ve worked closely with payment networks like Visa to ensure that our open payment platform adheres to the optimal payment acceptance standards for urban mobility defined under the Visa Ready program. We’re proud to say STraffic is recognized as a Visa Partner and happy to help transit agencies expand their platform to support open payments.

Open Payments Platform Benefits
Agencies interested in innovation and modernization of their fare payment systems transition to open architecture technology so riders benefit from improved convenience, to save cost and become more sustainable, and to help increase ridership. These advantages align with the goal of providing efficient, accessible, and customer-centric public transportation services both locally and regionally.
⦁ Widen Payment Acceptance : Offer more fare collection options to support equitable access by allowing riders to use payment instruments already in their pockets or on their phones. ⦁ Reduce Cost : Rely less on transit-issued cards, tickets, and bespoke technology to collect fares. ⦁ Increase Ridership : Providing riders the option to pay with any bankcard payment card or device just like they would at any retail store. ⦁ Enhance Security : Leverage bankcard technology to provide robust security, leading to reduced risk. ⦁ Offer New Fare Options : Provide a more equitable acceptance model by leveraging fare capping discounts that are available to anyone who can pay a single fare. ⦁ Future Proof : Embrace a greener, more eco-friendly, and sustainable approach to transit.
