STraffic (234300), a global transportation solution specialist, announced on the 17th May, 2023 that it had won an order for the construction of an automated control system (AFC) gate for the San Francisco subway through a 100%-owned local corporation.

The subway AFC gate construction project is a project to supply AFC gates to 55 stations operated by the San Francisco and nearby city transportation authorities (BART) and connect them with BART's operation and payment systems. The contract size is KRW 61 billion including options, and it plans to supply AFC gates to San Francisco subway stations sequentially over the next three years.

BART is the fifth largest transportation operator in the United States, with an average daily ridership of over 370,000. It operates a long-distance subway line connecting the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States, and at the end of 2019, it extended the line to San Jose.

It is known that BART has long sought various measures to reduce fare evaders. This is because unnecessary losses are occurring, such as leaks due to fare evaders rides in the San Francisco area reaching about 32 billion won a year. In order to solve this problem, BART said that it placed an order for the AFC gate business with STraffic.

STraffic has sliding door-type gates with enhanced fare evasion solutions and AI camera detection system technology to check customer safety. Based on this, the company explained that it received a higher evaluation than competitors in the technology evaluation and was selected as the preferred bidder.

By securing this order, STraffic is expected to have a positive impact on its global market penetration. An official from STraffic said, "We will further accelerate our entry into the global market, including the United States, based on our technological superiority, such as an fare evasion solution."
