Introduction

STraffic won a project to build a toll collection system on the Padma Bridge and N8 Expressway in Bangladesh, which is a national project in Bangladesh, and Korea Expressway Corporation manages and operates this project. In the past, most of the tolls were paid in cash when passing through toll booths, but after the Toll Collection System Project, tolls are paid with high-pass facilities automatically. STraffic is also carrying out the construction of a traffic monitoring center (TMC) in the sales office, and providing a system that can grasp the traffic volume, traffic situation, and receipt status of the Padma Bridge at a glance through a closed circuit.

Challenges

This project is scheduled to be completed within 2023, and by establishing an RFID fare collection system and a traffic management system, it is possible to secure construction cases in Southwest and Southeast Asia. Also, it is used to develop Bengali license plate recognition technology for the Padma Bridge toll collection project in Bangladesh, which is currently under construction.

Result

STraffic has been developing vehicle number recognition technology using deep learning since 2018, and as a result of research, it has developed a number recognition engine with high accuracy even at high speed by securing technology to lighten and optimize deep learning models. Even if the license plate is bent or damaged, AI automatically recognizes it, and even secured vehicle and person detection technology in the toll gate. This technology has been applied to 250 highway toll gates in Korea. For the Padma Bridge toll collection project in Bangladesh, which is currently under construction, Bengali license plate recognition technology was also developed and applied. Padma Brdige toll collection project calssifies 13kinds of vehicles automatically and decides the fare systematically without manual handling.
