Introduction

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is implementing an Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for the extension of Seoul Subway Line 8 (Byeollae Line). The project includes the design, production, testing, delivery, installation, and commissioning of AFC equipment across six stations. The primary objective of this project is to enhance passenger convenience, support fare integration with the metropolitan transit network, and optimize operational efficiency through automation. A key focus is incorporating the metropolitan transfer discount system, facilitating seamless travel, and supporting the expansion of the transportation card-based fare collection system.

Challenges

This project requires seamless integration with the existing AFC infrastructure while maintaining compatibility with Seoul's transit fare system. Solution

The AFC system comprises automated ticket gates, fare adjustment machines, ticket vending machines, refund machines, transport card readers, and a central management system. The solution adheres to standardized equipment specifications, stringent testing protocols, and a comprehensive maintenance framework. Additionally, the system integrates advanced monitoring and data processing capabilities to enhance fare collection efficiency, enable real-time system monitoring, and improve customer service. The integration of secure data transmission and automated system alerts further strengthens operational reliability.
