Introduction

The Anseong-Guri Expressway Project began construction in late 2016 and was completed on January 1, 2025. This nine-year development involved extensive engineering efforts, smart traffic integration, and environmental considerations to ensure a seamless and efficient roadway.

The Anseong-Guri Expressway Project, opened on January 1, 2025, represents a crucial advancement in South Korea’s road infrastructure. Spearheaded by STraffic, this project enhances connectivity between Anseong and Guri, reducing travel time and optimizing traffic flow in the Seoul metropolitan area. With a focus on smart traffic management, STraffic has integrated cutting-edge C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) technology, ensuring seamless traffic operations and improved road safety.

The Anseong-Guri Expressway was developed to address growing congestion issues and support economic development by improving logistics and accessibility between major regions. By implementing innovative traffic control systems, the project enables real-time monitoring, dynamic traffic management, and accident prevention.

Challenges

Solution

STraffic deployed smart traffic control systems, incorporating AI-driven analysis and sensor-based monitoring to optimize vehicle flow. The use of adaptive traffic signal controls and dynamic lane management ensured smooth expressway operations while enhancing safety measures for drivers. Additionally, eco-friendly materials and construction methods were utilized to reduce environmental impact.

The expressway’s completion has led to:

This project highlights South Korea’s commitment to smart infrastructure, reinforcing Straffic’s role as a leader in intelligent transportation solutions. 

As South Korea’s first highway with a speed limit of 120 km/h, it will allow drivers to travel from Anseong to Guri in approximately 30 minutes.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, along with the **Korea Expressway Corporation, announced that the expressway will officially open at midnight on January 1, 2025.

The **Anseong-Guri Expressway spans 72.2 km**, running from **Namanseong Junction in Anseong to Namguri Interchange in Guri**, with a six-lane structure. The total project cost amounted to **7.4367 trillion KRW.

With the new expressway, the driving distance between **Namanseong Junction in Anseong and Namguri Interchange in Guri’s Topyeong-dong** will be reduced by 19.8 km (from 92.0 km to 72.2 km*\), and the **travel time** is expected to decrease by 49 minutes** (from **88 minutes to 39 minutes).

This development is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Seoul and major metropolitan areas, such as Wirye and Dongtan 2, while also **reducing chronic congestion** on the existing Gyeongbu and Jungbu Expressway.
