BART has achieved three goals simultaneously through the implementation of Next Generation Fare Gates: enhancing security, improving passenger experience, and increasing operational efficiency.

Completion of Installation Across All 50 Stations  

As of August 2025, installation was completed at all stations, four months ahead of the original schedule, demonstrating strong project management capabilities.

Fare Evasion Reduction Results  

Since the introduction of the new gates, observed fare evasion has decreased by 59%, which is expected to recover at least $25 million in annual fare revenue.

Strengthening the Safe and Clean Plan  

By improving the level of cleanliness in stations and trains and expanding security personnel, BART has created a safer and more comfortable environment for passengers.

Enhancement of Passenger Experience  

Station atmosphere and design have been modernized, and new gates and facilities have been introduced, allowing riders to experience the new image of “New BART.”

Technological Innovation and Accessibility Improvements  

Advanced sensors and door-lock mechanisms have been applied to strengthen security, while ensuring accessibility and convenience for diverse passengers, including those with disabilities, cyclists, and stroller users.

Improved Operational Efficiency  

Through optimized processes and systematic management, the project was completed ahead of schedule, and continuous efficiency improvements are expected in future maintenance and operations.
