MTA Takes Action to Address Fair Fare Issues for New York City Residents

관리자 2025.10.13

According to a report released by the Citizens Budget Commission (CBC), the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is expected to see a reduction in revenue losses from fare and toll evasion—from approximately $1 billion in 2024 to $900 million in 2025.

This improvement is attributed to strengthened cooperation between the NYPD and the state government, increased enforcement, investments in fare security equipment, and the expansion of the “Fair Fares NYC” program.

Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the MTA’s progress, noting that the fare evasion rate has dropped from 14% last year to 9%.Jai Patel, MTA’s Chief Financial Officer, also stated that subway fare evasion stands at 29%, while bus fare evasion continues to decline steadily.
