The consortium led by Straffic has won the contract for the construction of the next-generation metropolitan information system (KOTRIS) for approximately 9.2 billion KRW. Hansol PNS, which competed with STraffic in the bidding process, was deemed ineligible based on the technical evaluation results.
According to Straffic on the 17th, this project aims to upgrade the existing metropolitan information system developed by Samsung SDS a decade ago. Through the next-generation metropolitan information system construction project, KORAIL plans to significantly improve the aging transportation card settlement and data management system. In line with the government's cloud transition policy, the system will be migrated to a cloud environment, and data collection and verification functions will be enhanced.
STraffic, a company spun off from Samsung SDS, plans to innovate the entire transportation card settlement and data management system while carrying out this project based on its unique technology and capabilities. Through the system upgrade project, KORAIL will be able to strengthen its role as a settlement company covering metropolitan railway lines in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, and other regions, as well as issuing Rail Plus transportation cards and providing prepaid transportation card services, including mobile apps.
Following the transportation card system construction project for Seoul Metro, STraffic has also secured the next-generation metropolitan information system construction project for KORAIL, thereby acquiring technology and capabilities for the entire transportation card system, from terminals to upper settlement systems.
A STraffic representative stated, "Based on our unique technology in Korea, we supply transportation solutions covering roads, subways, railways, and aviation, and as the demand for system upgrades increases, we are expanding our orders." They added, "With overseas sales accounting for 30%, we are continuously expanding into overseas markets as well as domestically. This project will be another important reference for expanding our footprint in the global transportation system market."
They also mentioned, "We are conducting tests to expand the supply of solutions to prevent fare evasion in major cities, including Washington DC and San Francisco, where we have also secured projects and are building systems."
