Global transportation solutions specialist STRAFFIC announced on the 17th that it has won a 9.2 billion won project to build the next-generation Metropolitan Information System (KOTRIS) for the Korea Railroad Corporation through a consortium. The Korea Railroad Corporation plans to significantly improve the transportation card settlement and data management systems through this project.

In line with the government's cloud transition policy, the Korea Railroad Corporation will move the system to a cloud environment and enhance data collection and verification functions. This next-generation Metropolitan Information System (KOTRIS) project involves upgrading the existing Metropolitan Information System developed by Samsung SDS ten years ago. STRAFFIC stated that it won the project based on its unique technological capabilities and expertise. Spun off from Samsung SDS, STRAFFIC aims to innovate transportation card settlement and data management through this project.

The Korea Railroad Corporation will be able to strengthen its role as a prepaid transportation card issuer, including issuing Rail Plus transportation cards and providing public services (including mobile apps) not only in the metropolitan area but also in regional lines such as Busan and Daegu. Following the transportation card system construction project for the Seoul Metropolitan Government, STRAFFIC will secure technical capabilities across the entire transportation card system, from transportation card terminals to upper settlement systems, through the next-generation Metropolitan Information System construction for the Korea Railroad Corporation.

A STRAFFIC representative stated, "Based on our unique technological capabilities, we supply transportation solutions covering roads, subways, railways, and aviation, and we are expanding orders in response to the increasing demand for system upgrades." They added, "STRAFFIC is continuously expanding its overseas market presence, with overseas sales accounting for nearly 30% of total sales. This project is expected to be another important reference for expanding into the global transportation system market."

They also mentioned, "Following the project wins in Washington D.C. and San Francisco, we are conducting tests to expand the supply of anti-fare evasion solutions to nearby major cities."
